Anemone (the name of a flower) decoration features hand painted blue flowers, leaves and stripes. The name derives from Greek meaning 'windflower', and according to a legend, the flowers were born from the tears of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. In Finland, the Anemone flower is a herald of spring, and in May it covers the Finnish forests in a blanket of white, blue or yellow flowers. It is the emblem flower of Finnish Mother's Day and a lovely choice of gift for any mother.
The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.
A Jar with a lid can be used as a candy pot, as a can for tea leaves, or as vessel for marmalade.
