Rosmarin (rosemary, a herb) features hand-painted flowers, leaves and stripes in a beautifully warm reddish brown tone.
The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.
This Nordic vintage design and decoration were both made by the same artist, Ulla Procopé. The decoration was also made in blue under the name Anemone.
These hand-painted decorated Rosmarin plates were produced for export only by Arabia Finland in the 1960's. This is why they are more rare than their striped counterparts.
A side plate for appetizers, salads, dessert, bread and butter, or a luncheon plate. Used for sets with teacups.
These rare decorated Rosmarin vintage plates show some minor inaccuracies in the hand-painted pattern. There might be some small signs of wear and tiny scratches. There might also be some small imperfections in the glazing, such as a few tiny darker dots, pinholes, bubbles, lumps or dents. They are beautiful to use for any table setting.
