Birka (Viking archeological site in Ekerö, Sweden) is a simple decoration with black stripes on a spotted stoneware base by Swedish designer Stig Lindberg. Birka has a wonderfully calm and simple style, it feels both modern and yet timeless. Perhaps it was inspired by the viking pottery as the name suggests?

This earthy decoration reflects the 1970s artisanal and natural aesthetic, which is still hugely popular in the Nordic countries. Birka was originally created for the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. It was their best selling series, in production for over 22 years! Afterwards production of this much loved series continued at Arabia for almost another decade (1995-2003), as a result of the three Nordic porcelain companies Arabia, Rörstrand and Gustavsberg merging together. Birka is a classic of the Nordic coffee table.

A set of a cup and a saucer for hot drinks. Usually used for serving tea, but also hot chocolate or coffee with milk.
