Kalevala (the Finnish national epic) decoration features large hand-painted flowers. This series has a beautiful artisanal feel, thanks to the hand-made and painterly decorations. Each dish feels unique and special attention has been given to detail. The model has beautiful soft sloping curves, that suggest relaxing cosy afternoons, forest cabins, and uncomplicated rustic living. The big bold print is particularly delightful, beaming with a peaceful and calm joy.
The series came in two patterns: flowers and clouds. The two patterns combined create interesting variety and the pattern flows nicely from one version to the next. They make a charming pair of friends, so it is such a delight to own both versions. Both versions also came in two colour variations: in shades of red and chocolate brown with black edges on a soft and creamy yellow ochre background; and a rare dark blue and brown version on a black background.
This nordic vintage dish is a hand-painted decoration produced as "ateljé" or artist studio production as special limited edition series. Due to their small hand-painted editions, atelje series can be quite rare.
These plates are in excellent condition, but the glazing has some small bubbles on it. Please see the additional photos.
A side plate, dessert plate, bread plate or a plate for cake or sweet buns. This plate forms a set with a coffee cup. A celebratory Finnish coffee setting includes a coffee cup, saucer, cake plate with a spoon and a serviette for every guest. This plate also functions as a bread plate at the dinner table.
These cute Kalevala plates have some minor imperfections. The glazing is a bit uneven, there are a few tiny bubbles, dents or lumps, and a few dark dots. There are some signs of wear: small scratches. The additional photos show examples. These rare hand-painted plates are still beautiful in use.
