Arabia Rosmarin Teacup 0,28 l, Vintage

Rosmarin (rosemary, a herb) features hand-painted flowers, leaves and stripes in a beautifully warm reddish brown tone.

The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.

This Nordic vintage design and decoration were both made by the same artist, Ulla Procopé. The decoration was also made in blue under the name Anemone.

A set of a cup and a saucer for hot drinks. Usually used for serving tea, but also hot chocolate or coffee with milk. Did you know that Finnish vintage teacups are actually rarer than the coffee cups? This why they are also more valuable.

These beautiful teacups are in rather good vintage condition. There are however some production imperfections: slightly asymmetric form and a few tiny lumps, bubbles, pinholes or dents on the glazing. There is also some inaccuracy in the hand-painting such as a few extra drops of colour and dark dots, and some scratches especially on the saucers. The Arabia stamps on the bottom of the saucers have worn off. Please see the photos for examples.
