Paju (willow) is an ornamental pattern with two wheels inside one another. Together they form a flower with round petals. This retro decoration is finalised with blue stripes along the edges.
Arabia Paju was hand-painted in two colour combinations: blue-violet and blue-yellow. In Finland willows are associated with spring, which reflects the cheerful and fresh colours of this design.
The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.

The wide edge makes it easy to pass around the dishes and supports cutlery. For this reason, the deep plate also serves as a beautiful serving dish. Thanks to the edge the plate is firmly seated on drying racks.
These amazing soup plates have some imperfections on the hand-paint, like a few tiny drops of blue paint and some minor unevenness on the glazing, like tiny dents or plumps. Also, there are some matte parts and small scratches on the blue stripes. Please see the additional photos for examples.
