Fructus (a Latin word for fruit) is a hand-painted decoration from Arabia's art department. It features a dark apple cut in half, painted on a blue or reddish-brown background. This mysterious pattern by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist has a deep and almost sensual atmosphere.
The highlight of this design is the artful and painterly design, which has required extreme skill. Vintage Arabia ceramics are indeed much admired for the talent of their painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an lively illusion of three-dimensionality and depth. The rough painting style brings an authentic artisanal feel to this nordic vintage dish.
Series' made by Arabia's Art Department are often sought-after rare limited editions.
These wonderful fruit plates have some small unevenness on the glazing from production, or some tiny scratches on the dark painted edge.
