Purtilo (a trough/manger) is a cylinder-shaped design, minimalistic and typical of the clean and simple lines of award-winning designer Kaj Franck. Much like his well-known Teema series, this design reflects his love of flawless and pure geometrical shapes combined with basic colours. Characteristic of the talent of this period's Finnish glassblowers, notice how beautifully thin and truly first-class the glass is.
Purtilo series was produced in the 70s in four colours: clear, light blue, green, and brown glass. Despite the extremely modern and minimal look, these dishes hint at a long history of glass-making: the chosen colours are some of the oldest used and remind one of historical bottles or antique medicine jars. A wooden lid made from Finnish birch wood was used in some of the items.
A Jug/pitcher is a vessel for serving water, iced tea, juice or beer and other cold drinks at mealtime. You can also use it for serving liquid cold seasoning, or as a vase for flowers.
This stylish pitcher has some signs of use: small scratches.
