Anemone (the name of a flower) decoration features hand painted blue flowers, leaves and stripes. The name derives from Greek meaning 'windflower', and according to a legend, the flowers were born from the tears of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. In Finland, the Anemone flower is a herald of spring, and in May it covers the Finnish forests in a blanket of white, blue or yellow flowers. It is the emblem flower of Finnish Mother's Day and a lovely choice of gift for any mother.
The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.
The design and decoration were both made by the same artist, Ulla Procopé. The decoration was also made in brown under the name Rosmarin.
A set of a cup and a saucer for hot drinks. Usually used for serving coffee- or espresso-based drinks but also hot chocolate or tea.
These beautiful coffee cups have some signs of wear and scratches, especially on the saucers. The glazing might also have some small bubbles, tiny black spots and some spills of blue paint or other tiny imperfections. Please see the additional photos for examples.
