Arabia Hand-painted Turquoise Flower Teacup 0,28 l, Vintage

This unnamed series of flower decorated teacups were painted by Hilkka-Liisa Ahola in the mid 1960s. They are sometimes called Arabia HLA (after the initials of the designer).

This Arabia hand-painted series design has gained popularity for its interesting and vibrant colours. The design came in three colour combinations: turquoise-lilac-yellow, moss green-turquoise-blue, and orange-yellow-terracotta. The colour palette reminds one of Finnish interior design from the 1960-70s.

The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.

These nordic vintage teacups were produced in the Arabia Art Department until the beginning of 1970s. They are gorgeous and collectibles and still so robust and usable.
