Otso (a bear, lord of the forest in Finnish mythology) series came in two variations: decorated and undecorated. When combined, the two variations create interesting variety and the pattern flows nicely from one version to the next. They make a charming pair of friends, so it is such a delight to own both versions.
This is the decorated version. It features leafy pattern made by combining special brush printing and hand painting. Maybe you will find some colours of honey and brown in this ornamental decoration featuring flowers, acorns and leaves with brown and green stripes?
The pattern was made made using the air-brush stencil technique, which leaves the edges of the pattern beautifully soft and fuzzy. This technique has a strong vintage feel and was very popular in the 60s and 70s. The hand-painted stripes used as a finishing touch create a watercolour-like effect and bring variety to the colours and liveliness to the otherwise simple pattern. The hand-painting gives an authentic artisanal feel to this nordic vintage series.
The colour of the glazing shifts in tone from paler to more deep tones. This change in colours gives the design a rustic feel. Arabia Otso has a playful and mysterious forest atmosphere. Its bold decoration designed by Raija Uosikkinen has a folk art style typical of 70s Finnish decorations.
A creamer is a container for milk or cream, used when serving tea or coffee. You can also use it for serving dressing or as a vase for small flowers.
This delightful vintage creamer is in excellent condition, it has however a few imperfections in the glazing. Please see the additional photos.
