These small flower vases have a decorative pattern featuring a magical bird, whose tail feathers beautifully twist and turn into flowers and leaves. The playful bird is decorated with the triangle pattern often seen on traditional harlequin theatre costumes. The motif has also been called Harlekiinikukko "Harlequin rooster". The delicate harlequin decoration was first drawn and printed on these miniature vases and then the golden sections were hand-painted on top.
Esteri Tomula drew many sweet little decorative motifs and funny creatures in the beginning of her career in the early 1950's. The harlequin was one of her favourites. Very few of these designs were chosen into production by Arabia Finland and only small editions were produced. They are a special and rare collectible from the start of Tomula's career.
