Arabia Nyyrikki Plate 17,5 cm, Vintage

Arabia Nyyrikki (an old male given name) refers to a spirit or god in Finnish mythology, that guards, helps and protects hunters in the woods. It features a hand-painted ornament with round shapes resembling plums in blue and olive green, between blue stripes.

The highlight of this design is the artful and calligraphic brush-strokes, which have required extreme skill. Arabia was indeed much admired for the talent of its ceramic painters. The hand-painted nature of the pattern makes each dish excitingly unique and the colours shift in tone from pale watercolour washes to deep and luxurious tones. This change in colours give the simple design an exciting illusion of three-dimensionality and depth.

Because of the hand-painted nature of the design and its short production period (only 2 years), this nordic vintage series is a rare gem.

A side plate, dessert plate, bread plate or a plate for cake or sweet buns. This plate forms a set with a coffee cup. A celebratory Finnish coffee setting includes a coffee cup, saucer, cake plate with a spoon and a serviette for every guest. This plate also functions as a bread plate at the dinner table.

There are some imperfections on these beautiful plates: some visible spots of paint, scratches, and bubbles on the glazing. Please see the additional photo.
